Shawnee Weekend Forest Ride (SWFR)

SWFR is a weekend/3 day bike ride October 18 - 20, 2008, in the Shawnee National Forest south of Carbondale, Illinois. Loops of 30, 62, and 100 miles will wind through the hills of Jackson, Williamson and Union Counties.

Lodging will be at Touch of Nature Environmental Center located north of Giant City State Park on Giant City Road. Touch of Nature is associated with Southern Illinois University and provides a rustic camping environment adjacent to Little Grassy Lake, part of the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge.

After several successful rides in the northern part of Illinois, LIB has decided to offer a shorter ride in the southern part of the state to take advantage of the beautiful, wooded hills of the Shawnee National Forest. The Carbondale Bicycle Club will assist LIB with this ride.

Additional information and registration form is available here.
