League of Illinois Bicyclists

The League of Illinois Bicyclists (LIB) is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to making Illinois a better place for bicyclists. We are the statewide advocacy voice for all Illinois bicyclists, promoting bicycle access, education, and safety.

Most bike clubs in Illinois are LIB-affiliated clubs, supporting our efforts through annual contributions. Find out how to join, below.

Here's how LIB works for your club:

LIB works with local, state, and federal officials on behalf of bicyclists.

• Advocate bike-friendly road designs
• Promote trail development and funding
• Serve on transportation policy-making committees
• Educate local officials on bicycling issues
• Protect cyclists' rights on the roads
• Facilitate bicycle safety education

LIB teams with our affiliated clubs to promote bicycling. We:

• Collect and publicize listings of organized rides, including bike club invitationals
• Organize our ride brochure mailings, saving our clubs time and money
• Alert your club about bicycling issues near you, and act as a resource on local advocacy efforts
• Provide clubs with our Illinois Bike Law cards, our Grand Illinois Trail guide, and other materials
• Send clubs LIB's newsletter, as well as advocacy stories and alerts for your own newsletters
• Provide a club meeting presentation on LIB and bike advocacy to nearby clubs

Join as an LIB-affiliated club

The League of Illinois Bicyclists depends heavily on the support of our individual members and our affiliated bike clubs. To continue serving Illinois bicyclists, we need the financial support of all clubs in Illinois. See our list of affiliated clubs for club membership levels.

Members of contributing bike clubs automatically become "affiliated members" of LIB. Many of these people also become "individual members". Please encourage your club members to also join LIB - brochures and a newsletter ad can be provided. To increase our strength in Springfield and elsewhere, we need the backing of as many bicyclists as possible. Our goal is that all members of all Illinois bicycle organizations become members of the League of Illinois Bicyclists.
